A DIY Formula One 18th Birthday
The Inspiration...
Where does one go to get inspiration? Of course, none other than Pinterest!
This party was my first themed party I had thrown where I planned, gathered and set the decor. To be honest, it was last minute and quickly put together within a week. But BOY did it turn out soooo cute!
It all began with a single Pin that popped up on my feed of a cute third birthday theme - "Three-Rex." I mean how cute is that!? So of course I saved that Pin, Pinterest listened to me and continued to throw out themed party Pins all over my feed. That's when I came across the "Two Fast Second Birthday" theme. Well, long story short, my fiancé's brother was turning 18 that week and both my fiancé and his brother had been getting into Formula One racing. Then it clicked - 18 is a big milestone, we should throw him a fun birthday party, and luckily enough I just came across this ADORABLE "Two Fast" birthday theme (my fiancé says it was his idea to throw a race car birthday, so we will go with it 😉). Tweak the name of the theme a bit - "Growing Up Too 'Fast & Furious'" and we have a killer party theme for an 18 year old!
The Decor...
All of the decor was gathered from local (chain) stores and crafted in-house. By doing this, we ended up keeping our costs low. This party theme and decor style is perfect for the DIY-er.
I shopped at the following stores:
Dollar Tree - plastic table cloths, black silverware, black dessert plates, clear platters, Hot Wheels, red filler & black and red balloons.
Party City - #1 & #8 balloons, blue balloons, checkered plates, checkered napkins, checkered flags, checkered banner & party hats.
Target - white cake stands & mini trophies.
Amazon - checkered balloons, cupcake wrappers and toppers, vintage car banner & 'Happy Birthday' banner.
In-House - cupcakes, food & signage.
One of my favorite parts about the decor was the balloon garland. I have been on a balloon garland kick lately and this one happened to turn out SO cute! I just have to share the amazing tutorial on how to make balloon garlands - A Hosting Home taught it best.
All you need is balloons and twine. You can add greenery if you'd like, but so far my garlands have not needed greenery. A balloon pump is also very helpful. They turn out so cute! They are adjustable and easier to hang than the balloon garlands made with the clear plastic strip.
Crossing The Finish Line
For being my first themed party, everything turned out perfect and exceeded my expectations. I had an absolute blast planning it and picking out the decor. I can't wait to design more parties and bring clients' visions to life ❤️
